The Yacht Hand course introduces the beginner to sailing. Following the SA Sailing syllabus you will learn all about sea terms, sails, ropes work, fire precautions, safety at sea, man overboard techniques, distress signals, weather, rules of the road, helmsmanship and introduction to navigation. All seamanship skills and navigation skills are upgraded into a leadership role.

You will be taught how to:

• pilot a yacht in familiar waters


• advanced sailing skills including selecting sails and spinnakers


• interpreting weather forecasts


• mooring a boat


• dealing with emergency situations


• night sailing familiarization and advanced navigation techniques. 

You are able to live aboard for the full duration of the course.
